The tally across all 11: prices run from $295 to $595. Heels run from 1.5 to 2.5 inches and shafts from 6 to 14 inches. All 11 list a Goodyear welt according to their makers. Ten of them list a leather outsole, while Corral's C4150 page says leather in its spec and rubber in its description. Three of the 7 men's styles come in D and EE. Each of the 4 women's styles lists one width, B or B-Average.
What is a snip toe boot, and what does snip toe mean?
A snip toe boot has a pointed, tapered toe whose tip is cut flat, as if the point were snipped off. Ariat says a snip toe starts out like a standard pointed toe with the very end snipped off, and Tecovas describes it as a pointed toe squared off at the very tip.
I think a buyer should know the toe shapes: R, round, square, cutter, snip and French. Lucchese's site explains where the snip came from: "Originally made for getting in and out of a stirrup, the snip toe is pointed for a traditional look."
Lucchese prints toe widths on its product pages. Read its numbers as Lucchese's scale, not an industry standard.
| Lucchese toe | Width on Lucchese's chart |
|---|---|
| Snip toe | 5/8 in |
| Western square toe | 7/8 in |
| French toe | 1 in |
| Q toe | 1 1/4 in |
| W toe | 1 1/2 in |
Alvies lists The Comal for men and The Trinity for women as snip toes. See our full guide to cowboy boot toe shapes for round, square and the rest.
Edgy pick for men: Alvies The Comal
The Comal is a 13-inch cowhide snip toe boot with a ¾ Goodyear welt and a 1.5-inch stacked leather heel. It costs $390 (price checked October 16, 2026). See The Comal.
It comes in D and EE widths, sizes 8 to 15, with a 100% leather outsole, midsole and insole plus a "cork filler" and "a layer of EVA" (Alvies' FAQ), made in León, Mexico.
The bespokewestern.com page rates it 4.8 on 96 reviews. One owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote that after a month of stretching by a cobbler and "very painful breaking in" they "could still barely pull them on".
George's take: Alvies is the way in for a new boot buyer. That buyer wears tighter jeans and t-shirts and heads out to festivals and the nightlife. The Comal is edgy and made for that night out.
Pros
- A Goodyear welt a cobbler can resole
- A Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects that excludes sole and heel wear, covers the original owner and carries a $19.99 replacement fee
Watch out for
- One owner reports a hard break-in, quoted above
- The Comal's product page says "Free size exchanges for 30 days"; check the terms before you buy
Skip it if you want a traditional cowboy boot. I call Alvies edgy, not traditional.
Roughout pick: Chisos No. 5
The No. 5 is an 11-inch snip toe boot sold in roughout, black and brown. Chisos says its roughout is a full grain hide turned inside out. At $595 it is the highest-priced boot in the table.
It is handcrafted in Guanajuato, Mexico, with Goodyear construction, a leather channel welt and hand-lasting, a veg-tanned leather sole, a steel shank and a 1.625-inch heel.
Chisos's page rates it 4.86 on 150 reviews. A BootSpy reviewer who wears a 10.5D found "the snip toe on the No. 5 was a bit too snug" with the foam footbed in, and suggests maybe sizing up a half-step.
George's take: Fit comes first for me. A good pair is extremely comfortable once it fits and has settled in, like a good baseball glove. Check the No. 5's D width in the table before you order.
Pros
- Hand-lasted, with a steel shank
- Fully rebuildable and resolable
Watch out for
- D width only, and one reviewer found it snug, so read the sizing note above
Skip it if you need an EE width or a lower price.
Goat pick for men: Tecovas The Garrett
The Garrett is a 12-inch goat shaft snip toe boot with a 1.5-inch angled stacked leather heel, $375 in Cafe Goat. It comes in D and EE, sizes 7 to 15.
Tecovas rates it 4.7 on 603 reviews (checked October 16, 2026).
George's take: Under jeans, a 12-inch shaft looks the same as a taller one; what shows is the leather. On the Garrett that is goat.
Pros
- Goat leather in D and EE
- A leather outsole and a resoling program
Watch out for
- Welt and origin come from Tecovas's help center, not the product page
Skip it if price leads. Three men's snip toes cost less than $375: the C4150 at $298, the Blaze at $325 and the A4452 at $369.
Best zip-on for men: Tecovas The Blaze
The Blaze is a cowhide snip toe boot with a 6.5-inch shaft and a side zipper, $325 in D and EE, with a steel shank.
Tecovas rates it 4.7 on 120 reviews (checked October 16, 2026). One reviewer exchanged down half a size and called the exchange "quick and painless".
George's take: I think the first barrier is the worry that a boot will be uncomfortable and hard to get on and off. Check the Blaze's widths and shaft in the table.
Pros
- A side zipper for easy entry
- EE width at $325
Watch out for
- Tecovas states the welt and origin at brand level
Skip it if you want a tall shaft. The Blaze stands 6.5 inches.
Best python accent: Corral A4452
The A4452 is a python and lamb snip toe boot on a Goodyear welt with a leather outsole. It costs $369 and has a 2-inch heel and a 12-inch shaft.
Corral's page lists 23 reviews. Corral also lists the C4150 in cowhide at $298 and the A5171 in black python and lamb at $388.
George's take: I think people who make the leap into boots want it flashy, a boot that tells a story, a one of one. Check the A4452's leather and heel in the table.
Pros
- Python on the vamp, lamb on the shaft
- Goodyear welt and a leather outsole
Watch out for
- It lists D only
- Corral says the leather cannot be shipped to California
Skip it if you prefer plain leather. The C4150 is cowhide at $298.
Lowest heel for women: Alvies The Trinity
The Trinity is an ankle boot with a 7-inch shaft, a 1.75-inch heel and a side zipper. Its heel is the lowest of the 4 women's snip toes here, and it costs $330 (price checked October 16, 2026). See The Trinity.
The upper and lining are full cowhide on a ¾ Goodyear welt, in B width, sizes 5 to 12. The Trinity's own page says it runs true to size, on the same last as The Rainey.
The bespokewestern.com page rates it 4.9 on 37 reviews (October 11, 2026). The Daisy has 2,516 reviews at 4.8 and The Annie has 8,349 at 4.9 (October 16, 2026), so The Trinity's sample is far smaller.
George's take: In Alvies we offer women's boots, and The Trinity is the women's snip toe in this guide.
Pros
- A side zipper and a Goodyear welt
- A Limited Lifetime Warranty that excludes sole and heel wear, covers the original owner and carries a $19.99 replacement fee
Watch out for
- B width only
Skip it if you want a taller shaft. The Annie stands 14 inches against The Trinity's 7.
Most reviewed for women: Tecovas The Annie
The Annie is a 14-inch cowhide snip toe boot with a 2-inch heel. It costs $375 in B-Average, sizes 5 to 12. Tecovas calls it its best-selling cowgirl boot.
It holds 4.9 stars on 8,349 reviews (checked October 16, 2026), the most of any boot here (other Tecovas counts also October 16, the rest October 11, 2026).
George's take: I see boots as having gone from utility, farming and ranching, to fashion. Tecovas lists the Annie's feature as a "fashion-forward snip toe".
Pros
- A tall 14-inch shaft
- The deepest review base in this set
Watch out for
- It is the highest-priced women's snip toe here, at $375
Skip it if price leads. The Trinity costs $330.
Also in the table: the Sadie, a suede with an 11-inch shaft at $345. The Daisy is a 6-inch goat zip bootie at $295.
How we picked
Construction comes first on this list. To me, construction is the value of a boot: a well-built pair, looked after, lasts a lifetime, and a welted boot can be resoled as often as you like. Next come leather, where the boot is made, widths and a dated price.
We compared 11 boots from 4 brands, and prices were checked October 11, 2026 (Alvies: October 16, 2026). Facts come from each maker's own product, size and policy pages saved on those days.
Owner lines come from Reddit's r/cowboyboots, a maker-page review and BootSpy. Where a maker states a fact for the whole brand, the table says so.
Bespoke Western makes and sells Alvies, Hevias and Olsen-Stelzer boots.
Snip toe vs square toe: which should you buy?
Buy a snip toe for a narrow, dressy front and a square toe for more room across the toes. La Herradura says square toes prioritize toe room, while snip toes create a narrow, elegant look.
La Herradura adds that toe shape and boot width are not the same thing, so a square toe still needs the right width.
Snip toe vs round toe: which fits your foot?
Choose a round toe for long days on your feet and extra toe room, and a snip toe for a sharper, dressier look. La Herradura adds that round toes may be easier to fit and style for a first-time buyer.
Are snip toe boots comfortable, and do they run small?
Snip toe boots are comfortable when length and width are right, and Tecovas says snip toes generally fit true to size. The tapered front leaves your toes less room than a square or round toe, with the pointed section starting beyond the toe box.
Alvies says men's boots fit true to size and The Trinity's page says the same; Chisos says the No. 5 fits true to size by Brannock measurement. Owners differ: one BootSpy reviewer suggests maybe sizing the No. 5 up a half-step, and a Blaze reviewer exchanged down half a size. If a snip feels snug, Eli's offers two fixes: a size up or a wider width. Only the Comal, Blaze and Garrett list EE.
I think a boot can be built to fit comfortably out of the box, because it is 2026, not 1889. Start with the right size and width, then see our guides on how cowboy boots should fit and cowboy boots for wide feet.
Who should skip a snip toe?
Skip a snip toe if you have wide feet, spend long days on your feet or want the most room for your toes. Tecovas recommends trying snip toes on first if you have wide feet.
If you want your exact toe, Olsen-Stelzer makes custom boots to measure from $1,500, with the toe chosen by the customer. Olsen-Stelzer's price list lists custom toes as an additional cost. See the Olsen-Stelzer made-to-measure page.
Quick answers
Are snip toe boots only for women?
Men wear them too. Tecovas says snip toes are far more common for women, and the table lists 7 men's styles from Alvies, Chisos, Corral and Tecovas.
What is the difference between a snip toe and a pointed toe?
A snip toe is a pointed toe with the very end snipped off. La Herradura calls it usually less extreme than a fully pointed toe, and says pointed toes may leave less natural space around the toes.
What is the difference between a snip toe and a cutter toe?
Ariat describes a cutter toe as a square toe with a slightly tapered profile, while a snip toe tapers to a point and stops flat. La Herradura places the cutter between a square toe and a pointed or snip toe.
Can you resole a snip toe boot?
Yes, when it is welted. Alvies says the ¾ Goodyear welt means The Comal can be resoled, though Alvies does not resole or reheel boots itself, and Chisos calls the No. 5 fully rebuildable and resolable.
When do people wear snip toe boots?
Eli's Western Wear points to social events, dates and dressier occasions. For a suit, see cowboy boots with a suit.
Bottom line
Buy a snip toe for the narrow, dressy front, and choose your size by width as much as by length. For men, start with Alvies The Comal at $390; take the Chisos No. 5 for roughout or the Garrett for goat. For women, start with Alvies The Trinity at $330, or take The Annie for a 14-inch shaft. Both Alvies prices were checked October 16, 2026.
