Boots and a saddle in the barn.
Mostly yes. Dan Post boots earn their praise for comfort; for a first pair, start with the Milwaukee R Toe ($229.95, sizes 6.5 to 18). Owners and reviewers split on how long a pair lasts, and Dan Post states a welt for three of the twelve models we checked.
We checked twelve Dan Post models against dated prices, soles, widths and sizes up to 18, logged Dan Post's own answers on origin, warranty and returns with their labels, and read 147 owner and reviewer lines. Prices checked October 11, 2026. For the wider field, see the best cowboy boots and brands.
Are Dan Post boots good? The short answer by model
- Men's leather, five models, $229.95 to $289.95: The Milwaukee draws 20 tagged lines, the largest group for any model: 7 positive, 7 mixed and 6 negative. Of the five, the Franklin states a welt.
- Bison and exotics, four models, $309.95 to $1,699.95: The Manning states a Goodyear welt in a Store Owner answer and the Delano a traditional welt. Two mixed lines name the Manning; none names the Murray, the Alamosa or the Delano.
- Women's, two models, $274.95 and $329.95: Two negative lines name the Jilted, both from 1-star reviews on Dan Post's own site, and none names the Calista.
- Waterproof, one model, $204.95: The Albuquerque Waterproof has a rubber mini-lug sole and draws ten lines: five positive, four mixed and one negative. Three Store Owner answers (2020 to 2022) say China; the newest Store Owner answer (12/07/23) gives a two-group sentence.

What Dan Post owners and reviewers praise
Comfort leads: 26 of 34 comfort lines are positive, 5 mixed and 3 negative. Six lines talk about break-in, and just one names a Dan Post model from the twelve.
An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots said their Dan Posts "were amazingly comfy right out of the box".
On lifespan, 19 of 37 durability lines are positive. An owner on r/cowboyboots wears two pairs "at least 2 to 3 times a week for well over 3 years".

| Zappos review lines | 25 | 10 | 11 | 4 |
| Dan Post site review lines | 7 | 2 | 2 | 3 |
These are lines in our file, a sample rather than a poll: 115 are from Reddit, 25 from 22 Zappos reviews (2013 to 2025) and 7 from reviews on Dan Post's own site. Some lines come from the same comment or review, so these are not 147 people.
What Dan Post owners and reviewers complain about
Quality control and lifespan draw the complaints: 10 of 19 quality-control lines are negative and 8 mixed, and durability has 11 negative and 7 mixed out of 37. Service draws three lines, two of them negative.
An owner on r/cowboyboots wrote, "when I walked outside the heel fell off".
A Milwaukee owner wrote, "all 3 had the sole wear out within 1 year". Three comfort lines are negative, and all three blame a soft insole. One reads, "the least comfortable boot I've owned due to the soft insole".
Are older Dan Posts better than new ones?
Readers lean toward older pairs: of the six lines about older or vintage pairs, five are positive, and of the four about newer or current pairs, three are negative. The sample is small, and the pages we saved say nothing about a change in how Dan Post makes its boots, so these are readers' reports.
A commenter on r/cowboyboots wrote, "I much prefer the vintage Tony Lama, Nocona and Dan Post boots of the 70's-80's".
How Dan Post boots are built
To me, construction is the value of a boot: a well-built pair, looked after, lasts a lifetime, and a welted boot can be resoled as often as you like. See our Goodyear welt guide.
Three of the twelve models state a welt on the pages we saved: the Franklin (double-stitched), the Delano (traditional welt construction, hand-lasted) and the Manning, in a Store Owner answer signed 12/05/23. The pages leave construction blank for the other nine.
Dan Post's About page describes "handcrafted western boots", and its Gold Label page, the line the Delano belongs to, says "Every boot is handmade and hand-lasted". That is marketing language.
Commenters in one Reddit thread disagree about heel counters. An owner of a Renegade reported that "the heel counter in the right boot collapsed" after about a year and a half. Dan Post's saved pages are silent on counters.
Where are Dan Post boots made?
Dan Post's Store Owner answers name Mexico for the Franklin, the Manning, the Alamosa and the Milwaukee J Toe, and China for the Albuquerque Waterproof in three answers from 2020 to 2022; a newer one (12/07/23) gives a two-group sentence. The Murray page has one answer, "Mexico", labeled Verified Buyer. The pages we saved state no origin for the other six models.
| Model page | Dan Post's answer | Label and date |
|---|---|---|
| Albuquerque Waterproof | "They are made in China." | Store Owner, 11/25/20, 12/01/20 and 04/28/22 |
| Albuquerque Waterproof | "Dan Post traditional western styles are made in Mexico, work boots are made in China." | Store Owner, 12/07/23; the same sentence under Verified Buyer, 03/12/25 |
| Franklin | "The Franklin is made in Mexico." | Store Owner, 01/14/23 |
| Manning Python | "our Manning Python boot is made in Mexico, featuring stacked leather heel and goodyear welt" | Store Owner, 12/05/23 |
| Alamosa | "Mexico" | Store Owner, 01/26/23 |
| Milwaukee J Toe | "they are made in Mexico." | Store Owner, 12/07/20 |
| Murray Bison | "Mexico" | Labeled Verified Buyer; no date saved |
The 12/07/23 two-group answer does not say which group the Albuquerque belongs to.
One reviewer on the Milwaukee R Toe page (4/5) wrote, "I discovered the marking inside the boot shaft indicated that they were made in India". By that reviewer's account, customer care could not guarantee a Mexico pair, and the reorder was made in Mexico. For other brands, see where cowboy boots are made.
Do Dan Post boots run big?
Owners report both true to size and half a size down, and Dan Post's FAQ says, "We recommend ordering the same size you would normally wear in a non-athletic style shoe." Its Store Owner answer on the Manning page (11/16/20) says the boot runs true to size.
Fit lines split: 8 positive, 14 mixed and 9 negative out of 31. One owner wrote, "Dan post typically fit true to size for me". Another wrote, "All my Dans are 1/2 size down."
What does EW mean on Dan Post boots?
EW is the widest Dan Post carries, and a Store Owner answer on the Albuquerque page (01/15/24) says "Our EW boots are 2 1/2E wide", slightly wider than 2E and generally half an inch larger than D.
Among the twelve models, the two Milwaukees list B, and a reviewer on Dan Post's own site wrote, "it's becoming very difficult to find any boot in a B width". Sizes run to 18 on the Milwaukee R Toe and the Franklin and to 17 on the Renegade and the Alamosa; in the rest of our catalog, two brands list a size above 15: Thursday Boot Co., at 16, and R.M. Williams, at 17 in AU/UK sizing (US men's 18 on its size chart). See how cowboy boots should fit, the shoe width chart, wide feet and sizes 14 and 15.
How much Dan Post boots cost
List prices on the twelve models run from $204.95 to $1,699.95: four under $250, five from $250 to $349.99, two from $350 to $999.99, and the Delano at $1,699.95.
Dan Post warranty, returns and resoling
| Topic | What Dan Post's pages say |
|---|---|
| Return window | 60 days from purchase for new, unworn boots with tags and original packaging, with a prepaid UPS label (returns page) |
| Return cost | The returns page says "Return shipping costs may be deducted from your refund unless otherwise stated." and does not mention $12.00. A Store Owner answer on the Albuquerque page (03/23/24) says a $12.00 handling fee per order is deducted from the refund, waived for defects or a Dan Post shipping error, and "we do not refund shipping charges if an order is returned" |
| Exchanges | The returns page says "We do not offer direct exchanges at this time." Store Owner answers on the Albuquerque page say you can exchange if you order direct (06/07/20) and, asked about returning for a size that fits, "yes check out our return policy" (03/12/24) |
| Warranty | Store Owner answers: "Our warranty is up to one year." (Alamosa, 02/05/24); "Our boots are warrantied against manufacturing defects." (Franklin, 12/25/21); and, on the Albuquerque page, warranted against manufacturing defects "which normally show up in 30-60 days" (11/13/20). The returns and FAQ pages we saved mention no warranty. The Terms page says Dan Post does not warrant that the quality of any products "will meet your expectations" |
| Resoling | Not stated on the pages we saved for any of the twelve |
Which Dan Post should you buy, and who should skip them
Pick Dan Post if
- You want a leather-sole first pair in a B, D or EW width: the Milwaukee R Toe at $229.95, sizes 6.5 to 18. The 20 lines tagged Milwaukee split 7 positive, 7 mixed and 6 negative, so check the insole and the fit.
- You wear size 16 to 18: the Franklin at $289.95, sizes 7 to 18, states a double-stitched welt.
- You want an exotic with a stated welt: the Manning Python at $384.95, which Dan Post's Store Owner answer (12/05/23) says is made in Mexico.
- You need rain protection: the Albuquerque Waterproof at $204.95, on a rubber mini-lug sole.
Skip it if
- You want a stated welt on the page: nine of the twelve leave construction blank.
- You want a boot made in the USA: Dan Post's Store Owner answers on the pages we saved name Mexico or China.
How Dan Post compares with what we make
We paired the Milwaukee J Toe with Alvies The Lamar: both have a J-style toe and a 13-inch shaft, and both list a leather outsole. We paired the Murray Bison with Hevias The Heritage Boot: both are bison; the Hevias page says "Handcrafted in León, Mexico", and the Murray page carries a one-word "Mexico" labeled Verified Buyer.
| Boot | Price | Regular price | Construction | Outsole | Shaft (in) | Widths | Sizes |

Dan Post prices checked October 11, 2026; our prices checked October 16, 2026.
The Lamar is $390, and The Heritage Boot in Copper and Coal is $385 (prices checked October 16, 2026). At list prices, the Milwaukee J Toe ($229.95) lists below the Lamar ($390).
The Lamar page also lists a hard EVA middle lining and a non-slip rubber bottom on the heel.
Dan Post gives sizes to 18, a B width on the Milwaukee and a 60-day return window, against the Lamar's sizes to 15 in D and EE and 30 days. We state a ¾ Goodyear welt on the Lamar and a Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects. Alvies' warranty page says the warranty "does not cover sole or heel wear (we do not resole or reheel boots)", is "covered to the original owner", and adds: "A Shipping and Handling fee of $19.99 will be charged for all Warranty Replacements".
The catalog cannot see leather grade, counters or finishing. Shop The Lamar, The Heritage Boot in Copper or in Coal, or browse Alvies and Hevias.
How we counted
We went in this order: model, build, price, owner and reviewer lines. Dan Post's facts come from its product, returns, FAQ, About, Gold Label and Terms pages and the Questions & Answers on six product pages, saved October 11, 2026; the counts cover twelve models, a sample of its range. Dan Post's answers carry the label Store Owner or Verified Buyer, and we give the label and date.
The 147 lines come from 38 saved sources: Reddit threads read in October 2026, Zappos reviews and reviews on Dan Post's own pages. 17 are replies in a Dan Post thread that do not name the brand, and 7 are about the Warrior work boot, which is not one of the twelve; we counted them and quote none of the 17. We left out one Zappos line about a delivery date, which says nothing about a boot.
Bespoke Western makes and sells Alvies, Hevias and Olsen-Stelzer boots, and the comparison above uses two of ours. The Cowboy Boot Index 2026 has the wider catalog.
Quick answers
Are Dan Post boots genuine leather?
All twelve pages name leather or an exotic skin for the upper; the Manning page says "genuine python skin foot" and the Alamosa "genuine full quill ostrich skin foot".
Who owns Dan Post?
Dan Post's About page says the company is "headquartered in Greater Nashville, Tennessee", with labels "Dan Post, Laredo Western Boots, and Dingo1969". It names no parent company.
Bottom line
I think a boot can be built to fit comfortably out of the box, and a good pair settles in like a good baseball glove.
On the owner and reviewer lines, Dan Post is a good buy for comfort, at regular prices of $229.95 to $289.95 on the men's leather models and sizes to 18, with fit and lifespan as the open questions. Pick the Franklin or the Milwaukee R Toe for a big foot, and check the build, because three of the twelve state a welt.
