Best American-Made Cowboy Boots: 2026 Prices and Claims

|George Frederick Baker, Sr.

Where a boot is made is only part of the story.

Our first pick among American-made cowboy boots is the Rios of Mercedes R9002, for a buyer who wants a make line that names a town and sizes 6 to 15. Rios says it is handmade in Mercedes, Texas, on a double welt, at $549.95 (at Baker Shoe). To spend less, Anderson Bean's S1116 costs $400 (at Texas Boot Company).

We list 37 boots from 7 makers that state a US place. This page prints each make line as written and sorts the boots by claim strength: 22 plain make lines, 1 brand-level Texas line, 13 lines with a qualifier such as "with global parts", and 1 line about the leather. No make line says "100% American made". Prices checked October 11, 2026.

For the whole field, read our guide to the best cowboy boot brands. For each brand's own words on origin, see where cowboy boots are made, and for the wider data see the Cowboy Boot Index.

What does "made in the USA" say on a cowboy boot?

It says only what the maker, or in one case the dealer, chose to write, and the 7 makers here write 4 kinds of claim. "Handmade in Texas." and "Proudly made in the USA with global parts" promise different boots.

The FTC staff page "Complying with the Made in USA Standard" describes the yardstick. A product called Made in USA without qualification must be "all or virtually all" made in the U.S. The FTC adds that "all or virtually all ingredients or components of the product are made and sourced in the United States."

A qualified claim, the FTC says, "describes the extent, amount or type of a product's domestic content or processing". That is the FTC's text, not legal advice or a verdict on any maker.

Rung 1 spans three levels of detail: Rios and Anderson Bean name a town, Lucchese names a state and Abilene names the country. Abilene James sits alone on rung 4 because its sentence is about the leather.

Best make line that names a town, in sizes 6 to 15: Rios of Mercedes R9002

The R9002 is an 11-inch steer-hide boot in Rust Burnished Crazyhorse on a double welt, with a wide-square Milan toe and a leather hybrid outsole. It costs $549.95 (at Baker Shoe) in D and EE widths, sizes 6 to 15, and Rios recrafts it at the factory, a service that can take up to 60-90 days.

An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote of Rios, "Construction is flawless."

George's take: To me, construction is the value of a boot: a well-built pair, looked after, lasts a lifetime.

Pros

  • A plain make line that names a town
  • Factory recrafting on a double welt

Watch out for

  • Rios has no universal warranty and points you to the retailer of purchase

Skip it if you want a full-leather sole. The R9002 has a leather hybrid outsole.

Best under $500 with a town on the make line: Anderson Bean S1116

The S1116 is a boot in Mike Tyson Bison with a 13-inch shaft, a double welt (DWS) and a leather outsole. Anderson Bean says its boots are handcrafted in Mercedes, Texas, USA. It costs $400 (at Texas Boot Company) in D and EE widths, sizes 8 to 14. The S5003 also costs $400 (at Texas Boot Company), with a hybrid sole.

An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots called Anderson Bean "one of the few made in USA boots that are under $500."

George's take: I think fit comes first: a good pair is extremely comfortable once it fits and has settled in, like a good baseball glove.

Pros

  • Double welt and a leather outsole
  • D and EE widths

Watch out for

  • One owner wrote of Anderson Bean, "I just wish they'd make a shorter shaft for us short guys".

Skip it if you wear a size 15. The S1116 stops at 14, while the Rios R9002 goes to 15.

Lowest listed price with a plain make line: Abilene Dolly 9073

The Dolly is a tan cowhide ladies' boot with a medium-square toe, a 1.25-inch Western heel and a 12-inch shaft, $219.95, in sizes 6 to 11. Abilene's page says "Each pair is handcrafted in the USA". Its home page labels the brand line Goodyear welted and built to be resoled, and the Dolly page itself names a rubber outsole.

Our collection holds no owner lines for Abilene yet.

George's take: I think you can spot artisan, handmade construction in a second.

Pros

  • $219.95 is the lowest listed price with a plain make line
  • Handcrafted in the USA, per Abilene

Watch out for

  • The Dolly page lists sizes only, so ask Abilene about widths

Skip it if you want a town or a state on the make line.

Lowest-priced Lucchese on this list: Lucchese Majestic Roper

The Majestic Roper is a Black Cherry shadow-goat boot with a 10-inch shaft, a round toe, a single-stitched welt and a leather outsole. Lucchese's page reads "Handmade in Texas." It costs $495 in D and EE widths, sizes 7 to 14.

An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote, "Only lucchese handmades are quality imo". Across models, our Lucchese lines number 242 (201 from Reddit's r/cowboyboots, 1 from r/Horses, 29 store reviews, 11 lines from 2 press pieces): 72 negative, 103 positive and 67 mixed, and 22 of 42 quality-control lines are negative.

George's take: I think under jeans a 12-inch shaft looks the same as a 17- or 18-inch one, and what shows is the leather.

Pros

  • $495 is the lowest-priced Lucchese here
  • A leather outsole in D and EE widths

Watch out for

  • Lucchese's FAQ says it also partners with factories around the world

Skip it if you want a cowhide upper. The Baker, at $595, is the only Lucchese on this list in cowhide.

Best splurge: Lucchese Colton

The Colton is a Cognac and Light Brown boot in farm-raised American alligator leather, with a square toe and a leather outsole. Lucchese's page reads "Handmade in Texas." It costs $7,295 in D and EE widths, sizes 8 to 13, the highest price among the cowboy boots we have priced.

Our collection holds no owner lines for the Colton.

George's take: I think a buyer should know exotic from not exotic, and how and why you condition.

Pros

  • Alligator leather the maker calls American
  • A leather outsole in D and EE widths

Watch out for

  • Returns terms and shaft height are missing from the page we saved

Skip it if $7,295 is more than you plan to spend. The Majestic Roper carries the same Handmade in Texas line at $495.

Lowest price with a leather outsole from Tony Lama or Justin on this list: Tony Lama Avett

The Avett 11" American Bison is a full-grain boot with an 11-inch shaft, a square toe, a full welt with double-row stitch and a leather outsole. It costs $199.99, a sale price against a regular $264.95, in B, D and EE widths, sizes 6 to 15. Its make line sits on rung 3: made in the USA with global parts.

Justin's Austin matches the Avett on welt, outsole, toe, widths and sizes, at $249.95, so the Avett costs less on sale and more at its regular price. Double-H's DH4573 lists lower, at $149.98, a Boot Barn sale price against an original $289.99.

An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote of Tony Lama, "once broken in the Tony Lamas are the most comfortable out of all of them".

Use the owner line above and the table to judge this one.

Pros

  • Full welt with double-row stitch and a leather outsole
  • B, D and EE widths in sizes 6 to 15

Watch out for

  • $199.99 is a sale price, and the regular price is $264.95
  • The make line says global parts and leaves them unlisted

Skip it if you want a plain make line. Abilene's Dolly at $219.95 and Anderson Bean's S1116 at $400 have one.

How we picked

This page compares other makers' boots, and a boot is listed only if its maker's own page states a US place of make (for the Double-H DH4573, the dealer's page). We recorded 38 such boots from 7 makers and list 37, because Justin's Conductor is a work boot with a sewn-seat build and a polyurethane outsole.

We sort by the exact words, then compare construction, widths, sizes and price. Prices were checked October 11, 2026, from maker and dealer pages. Owner lines come from Reddit's r/cowboyboots, store reviews and press.

Bespoke Western makes and sells Alvies, Hevias and Olsen-Stelzer boots. None of the three house brands is ranked here; see What we make.

Are any cowboy boots 100% American made?

No make line on this list says "100% American made". The pages we saved give five reasons to read each line closely.

  • Rios and Anderson Bean say their exotic boots "are made of imported leathers such as Ostrich, Caiman Alligator, Elephant, Lizard".
  • Rios R9024 lists a 13-inch top of Black Remuda (Italian Tanned Horse Hide) beside its Texas line.
  • Justin, Tony Lama and Double-H add global parts or globally sourced materials, and Boot Barn's feature list for the DH4573 ends that line with the word Imported.
  • Lucchese's FAQ says that besides its own El Paso, Texas factory it "partners with factories around the world that excel in their trade".
  • Abilene's about page says "every detail is crafted from American-made components". We found that sentence on the about page only.

Are American-made cowboy boots better than Mexican-made ones?

Three lines in our collection say origin does not rank a boot. BootSpy wrote, "I don't think there's a difference in craftsmanship between American and Mexican-made cowboy boots".

An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote, "Many and I mean many excellent boots come from Mexico", and another wrote, "not all Made in Mexico boots are created equal".

Compare construction instead: a well-built, welted pair, looked after, can be resoled as often as you like. For boots built in León, see our guide to Mexican cowboy boots.

What we make

Alvies boots are handcrafted in León, Mexico, and so are Hevias boots, per each brand's own pages. For more, see our guide to Mexican cowboy boots.

Olsen-Stelzer makes boots to measure, ordered direct from the company. Read more on the Olsen-Stelzer page, browse the Alvies and Hevias collections, and see the Cowboy Boot Index for how other makers compare.

Quick answers

Are Justin and Tony Lama boots made in the USA?

Their USA-Made boots say so with a qualifier: "Proudly made in the USA with global parts", and they name an El Paso, Texas factory. 6 Justin and 5 Tony Lama boots on this list carry it.

Are Lucchese boots still made in Texas?

Lucchese says so on 12 boots here: its pages call them handmade in Texas. Its FAQ adds that it also partners with factories around the world.

Are Tecovas boots made in the USA?

Tecovas says its heritage-made cowboy boots are "handcrafted in León, Mexico by generational bootmakers". See where cowboy boots are made for each brand's wording.

Is Ariat made in the USA?

Ariat says "Ariat products are designed and developed in the US and manufactured around the world".

Is Cody James made in the USA?

We saved Boot Barn's Cody James listing and one Cody James product page. Neither names a place of make for a Cody James boot, so we cannot say.

What does "made in the USA with global parts" mean?

It is a qualified claim: the boot is made in the USA with parts from elsewhere, and the pages we saved leave those parts unlisted.

Bottom line

Read the make line before the price, then compare construction. Start with the Rios R9002 at $549.95 (at Baker Shoe) for a make line that names a town, or the Anderson Bean S1116 at $400 (at Texas Boot Company) to spend less. Take a with-global-parts boot such as the Tony Lama Avett at $199.99 only if you read that label as written.
