Mostly yes. Owners, commenters and reviewers praise Lucchese comfort and older pairs worn for 10 years or more. They split on quality control in new pairs and on price. Where you buy changes who handles a return or repair.

We checked 13 Lucchese listings (12 models) and read 231 owner, commenter and reviewer lines. Prices checked October 11, 2026. For the wider field, see the best cowboy boots and brands.

What Lucchese owners, commenters and reviewers praise

Durability leads: 28 of 38 durability lines are positive, 8 mixed and 2 negative. Comfort follows, with 18 of 26 positive.

A reviewer on Zappos in 2022 called one pair "THE most comfortable boot I’ve ever owned". An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote, "After 45 years I still smile and I have happy feet when I wear the San Antonio classics".

What Lucchese owners, commenters and reviewers complain about

Quality control and value draw the complaints. 22 of 41 quality-control lines are negative, and 23 of 60 value lines are negative with 25 mixed.

An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots described a new pair: "Loose stitches everywhere". An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote, "My first pair split just behind the toe box after 2 years".

On price, seven lines say you are paying for the name. An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote, "You are paying a premium for the name". A commenter on Reddit's r/cowboyboots answered the other way: "Lucchese is worth the price".

Do Lucchese boots last?

Older pairs do: all 11 lines that state an age of about 10 years or more are positive. Quality-control and durability lines about a new pair, or one of about 2 years or less, run the other way: 10 of 12 are negative.

Pair age the line states Lines Positive Mixed Negative
About 10 years or more 11 11 0 0
About 5 years 2 2 0 0
A new pair, or about 2 years or less (quality-control and durability lines) 12 1 1 10

Both groups are self-selected, and the long-wear lines describe older pairs.

Fifteen lines set older pairs against current ones: 11 negative, 3 mixed and 1 positive. A commenter on Reddit's r/cowboyboots, who handled donated boots at a thrift chain, wrote, "seeing it new at the store isn’t the same". An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots, who has a 2012 pair and a 2022 pair, wrote of both: "fit me exceptionally well, and have quality construction". Our file cannot test either claim.

Of the 29 Zappos lines, those from 2007 to 2013 run 6 positive, 3 mixed and 7 negative of 16; those from 2014 on run 8, 3 and 2 of 13.

How are Lucchese boots built?

All 13 product pages we saved list a welt: 11 single-stitched, the Harmon double-stitched with brass tacks and the Ridgeline a single-stitched storm welt. Twelve list a leather outsole, and the Ridgeline lists an EVA/rubber wedge. Four also list lemonwood pegs: the Original in both colors, the Collins and the Colton.

The word Goodyear appears on 0 of those pages. Lucchese's FAQ says it has used Goodyear welt construction for the past 130 years in its handmade boots. Its process page says pegging gives it the ability to re-sole the boot. See the Goodyear welt guide.

Source What it says about who makes the boot
Product pages Lucchese's site-wide line: Handmade in Texas by skilled artisans using traditional methods and premium materials
Lucchese FAQ A factory in El Paso plus partner factories; a Frontier Tech line made in China; Other Sourced styles handcrafted in Brazil or Mexico

Which Lucchese line to buy

Fifteen lines are about the Classics line: 8 positive, 7 mixed and 0 negative. One Reddit poster adds, in two lines, that other makers match the quality for less. Ten lines are about the 1883 line: 3 positive, 4 mixed and 3 negative. One owner places the 1883 line at the low end of Lucchese's range, a claim rather than a Lucchese statement.

Commenters also give style numbers meaning: one says a number must start with GY for a handcrafted boot, and another says a production code starting with M means Mexico. The four GY styles in our file list at $1,195 to $7,295, and every other listing is $895 or less. The Lucchese Baker's style number begins with M, and its page carries Lucchese's site-wide Texas line, as does the Ridgeline's. We draw no conclusion about where any style is made.

Do Lucchese boots run big?

Lucchese says its boots generally run true to size, and that a western boot may run slightly smaller than your dress shoe size. Its Luke page says many customers find that style fits a half size down from their usual boot size.

Of the sizing lines we tagged, 2 say size down, 4 say size up and 4 say true to size. An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote, "I size down a half size in Lucchese". A reviewer on Zappos in 2019 wrote, "I went half size larger than my usual shoes".

Width is the sharper split. 8 lines call the boot narrow, tight or thin at the instep or arch, including 5 Zappos reviewers from 2009 to 2018, and two owners say a slim foot fits well. Nine of the 13 listings offer D and EE; the Original in Amber lists a single width, D.

Lucchese advises at least 2 to 3 hours of wear on each of the first 6 to 8 outings. An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote of one pair, "super comfortable with little to no break in time". See how cowboy boots should fit, heel slip and the shoe width chart.

Lucchese warranty, returns and repairs

Term What Lucchese states
Returns Unworn, undamaged or defective merchandise bought online or by phone: refund within 30 days of receipt, less a flat $8 return shipping fee
Retailer purchases Return to the retailer, under the retailer's policy; returns from third-party sites such as Amazon and eBay are prohibited
Special orders Paid in full at order and final sale; its FAQ does not say whether online made-to-order items count
Warranty Original purchaser, defects in workmanship and materials, up to one year from purchase; work by anyone other than Lucchese craftsmen voids it
Repair time Repaired or replaced within 60 days of receipt; a repair time, not a claim deadline
Repairs past warranty Soles, heels and tears; fees vary; shipping to and from Lucchese is on you

Lucchese's FAQ sends retailer purchases back to the retailer for returns and for repairs, and it says nothing about a retailer purchase voiding the warranty. That claim lives on Reddit, where an owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote, "Lucchese will not honor their boot one year warranty unless you buy from their store". Another owner says Lucchese repaired a retailer-bought pair: "they sent me a FedEx label to ship the boots to their shop in Texas for repairs".

On waits, an owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote that "it would take 12-14 weeks just to determine if they would repair, refund, or exchange the boots". Lucchese's warranty page says 60 days from receipt to repair or replace. We show both.

The warranty page also says its Repairs department repairs boots bought at a Lucchese store, on Lucchese.com and at retail partners for style numbers that start with C, N, T, L, E, F, P, G or H. Eleven of the 13 style numbers we saved start with a listed letter; the Lucchese Baker's starts with M and the Ridgeline's is all digits. Its warranty page does not say what that means for them, so ask Lucchese before you buy.

How much do Lucchese boots cost?

List prices on the 13 listings run from $495 to $7,295. Prices checked October 11, 2026. Each page we saved shows one price.

Value splits the lines we read: of 60 value lines, 12 are positive, 25 mixed and 23 negative; the 17 from owners run 3, 8 and 6. Seven lines say you are paying for the name.

Who should buy Lucchese, and who should skip them

Pick Lucchese if

  • You want a welted, leather-soled boot: 12 of the 13 pages list a leather outsole, and 18 of 26 comfort lines are positive.
  • You want a pair to keep for decades: 11 lines about pairs that lasted 10 to 50 years are all positive, though 15 lines set older pairs against current ones, 11 of them negative.
  • You will buy from Lucchese.com or a Lucchese store, where its terms put a defect in Lucchese's hands.
  • You want ostrich or buffalo: 3 ostrich and 4 buffalo listings.

Skip it if

  • New-pair quality control worries you: 22 of 41 quality-control lines are negative.
  • You are shopping under $495, where these listings start, or want a rubber sole: the Ridgeline is the one listing with an EVA/rubber wedge.
  • You would buy from a retailer and expect Lucchese to service it: its FAQ sends retailer purchases back to the retailer.
  • You want a made-to-measure pair. Olsen-Stelzer's published prices start at $1,500 for cowhide, shoulder, goat or buffalo and $3,000 for full quill ostrich, with a 50% non-refundable deposit. Lucchese takes special orders too, final sale per its FAQ. See Olsen-Stelzer and custom cowboy boots explained.

How Lucchese compares with what we make

We paired the Lucchese Baker with Alvies The Lamar: both are cowhide with a leather outsole, a 1.5 in heel and D and EE widths. We paired the Savannah with The Guadalupe, an Alvies women's boot.

Boot Price Shaft (in) Widths Sole and welt
Lucchese Baker (Black) $595 12 (its page: 12-inch quarters) D, EE Leather outsole; single-stitched welt
Alvies The Lamar $390 13 D, EE ¾ Goodyear welt; 100% leather (outsole, midsole and insole), plus a "cork filler" and "a layer of EVA"
Lucchese Savannah (Tan) $645 12 B, C Leather outsole; single-stitched welt
Alvies The Guadalupe $365 12.75 B ¾ Goodyear welt; 100% leather (outsole, midsole and insole), plus a "cork filler" and "a layer of EVA"

Lucchese prices checked October 11, 2026; Alvies prices October 16, 2026.

The Lucchese Baker at $595 lists $205 above the Lamar at $390. The Savannah at $645 lists $280 above the Guadalupe at $365.

Lucchese refunds within 30 days of receipt, less $8, on what you bought from it. At $390 and $365, the Lamar and Guadalupe are full-price items under our refund policy: 30 days from delivery to exchange them for full credit or return them for a full refund.

How we counted

We went in this order: price band, construction wording, owner, commenter and reviewer lines, then terms. Lucchese's facts come from its product, FAQ, warranty, fit and process pages, saved October 11 and 12, 2026, and the counts cover 13 listings, a sample of Lucchese's range.

To me, construction is the value of a boot: a well-built pair, looked after, lasts a lifetime, and a welted boot can be resoled as often as you like. And I put fit first: once a boot fits and has settled in, it feels like a good baseball glove.

Our file holds 250 Lucchese lines. We dropped 19: 7 BootSpy lines that state a price, origin or construction claim rather than an opinion, 9 lines cut off mid-sentence that a saved completion replaces, 1 list of brand names and 2 of the 3 lines from one custom-order account. Lines from other repeat posters stay.

That leaves 231 lines from 32 saved sources: 198 Reddit lines, mostly in r/cowboyboots, 29 Zappos lines from 26 reviews and 4 from BootSpy, an affiliate-supported review site. The Zappos lines were picked from 151 saved reviews, 146 of them 5-star, so their split does not describe Zappos reviewers as a whole.

By speaker: 113 lines from owners on Reddit (59 positive, 23 mixed, 31 negative), 85 from commenters (26, 29, 30), 29 Zappos lines (14, 6, 9) and 4 from BootSpy. 60 lines sit in threads that compare Lucchese with another brand; we count what they say about Lucchese. Three threads open with a complaint and supply 41 lines, 22 of them negative; the other 190 lines run 92 positive, 50 mixed and 48 negative.

Lines are not people, and these threads are a sample rather than a poll. A store, press or Zappos reviewer is a reviewer, and an owner is someone who says they own the pair. Bespoke Western makes and sells Alvies, Hevias and Olsen-Stelzer boots, and the comparison above uses two of ours.

Quick answers

Why are Lucchese boots so expensive?

Lucchese says its domestic artisans use all-leather components and no cork fillers or pads. Four of the 13 listings are ostrich or alligator. Seven lines say you are paying for the name.

Are Lucchese boots good for work?

An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots, who has a secondhand pair, wrote, "They're dress boots, not for working in". Lucchese's FAQ describes a separate Frontier Tech work line made in China, which we did not check.

Can you resole Lucchese boots?

Lucchese's process page says pegging gives it the ability to re-sole the boot. An owner on Reddit's r/cowboyboots wrote, "Recently got them resoled and they are probably 50 years old, still like new".

Bottom line

Lucchese is worth it if you want a welted, leather-soled boot that owners, commenters and reviewers call comfortable, whose older pairs people report keeping for a decade or more, and you buy where a defect is simple to fix. The risks are quality control on a new pair and the price, so check the pair when it arrives and keep your proof of purchase.
