The Guadalupe is a 12.75-inch cowhide pull-on with a J toe, a 1.75-inch heel and a ¾ Goodyear welt. It costs $365 (price checked October 16, 2026). See The Guadalupe.
Our page rates it 4.9 from 96 reviews and calls the fit “True to size”.
Three of the 96 are rated three stars or fewer. A 2023 reviewer wrote, “I barely wear the new boots because they've been so challenging to break in.”
George's take: I see Alvies as the way in for a new boot buyer.
Pros
- ¾ Goodyear welt on a 100% leather sole plus a "cork filler" and "a layer of EVA" (Alvies' FAQ)
- A 12.75-inch shaft with a 1.75-inch heel
Watch out for

Skip it if you need a wide width or a calf above 13 inches.
Best short boot: Tecovas The Daisy
The Daisy is a 6-inch goat boot with a snip toe, a 2.5-inch heel and a Goodyear welt on a leather outsole, $295. Tecovas's page rates it 4.8 from 2,516 reviews (checked October 16, 2026), and it costs less than The Rainey or The Trinity ($330 each).
A reviewer on Tecovas's page called it “quite possibly the most comfortable boot I've ever worn!”.
Pros
- Goodyear welt, leather outsole
Watch out for
- B-average is the only width
Skip it if you want more shaft. The Annie stands 14 inches and The Abby 17.
Tall boot: Tecovas The Abby
The Abby is a 17-inch goat boot in Wine Goat with a 2-inch heel and a leather outsole, $395. Tecovas's page rates it 4.8 from 1,203 reviews (checked October 16, 2026), and at 17 inches it is the tallest of the 34 except Dan Post's 20-inch Jilted.
One reviewer on Tecovas's Abby page wrote, “Wide calf fits- wish it were wider though.” Tecovas's Abby Wide Calf adds .75 inch, and its feature list names Midnight, Driftwood and Snow, yet Tecovas also lists The Abby Wide Calf - Wine Goat at $395. We cannot tell which is current.
Pros
- A 17-inch shaft with a 2-inch heel
- A leather outsole
Watch out for
- The saved Abby page names no construction
Skip it if you want a named welt; the Annie lists one.
For a wider calf: Durango Crush 16-Inch Tall
The Crush is a 16-inch full-grain boot with a snip toe, a ¾ Goodyear welt and a hand-nailed leather outsole, $235.
Durango says its Easy Fit System “allows for a wider and more comfortable fit in the calf”; its spec table lists 15 inches. Dan Post's Jilted prints 16 and our Perry Lane 14 to 16.
A commenter who owns men's Durangos wrote, in an r/cowboyboots thread about the Crush, that Durangos “may not be the best if you plan on using them to ride, work, walk through rough terrain”.
Pros
- A printed 15-inch calf circumference
- ¾ Goodyear welt, leather outsole
Watch out for
- Medium (D) is the only width
Skip it if your calf is wider than 15 inches; see wide calves.
Square toe: Dan Post Calista
The Calista is a 15-inch all-leather boot with a cowboy square toe, a 1 3/8 inch heel and a leather outsole, $274.95, in M width.
Eleven of the 34 list a square toe, and five of those name a welt; the Calista's saved page names none. Tony Lama's Katie ($299.95) and HYER's Abbyville ($390) pair a welt with a leather outsole.
On Dan Post in general, an r/cowboyboots commenter who owns many pairs wrote, “I find them sloppy in the shafts”.
Pros
- A cowboy square toe on a leather outsole
- 60-day returns
Watch out for
- M is the only width; the saved page names no construction
Skip it if you need a width beyond M. Ariat's Round Up Remuda lists B and C.
Best under $200: Durango Lady Rebel Pro
The Lady Rebel Pro is a 12-inch full-grain boot with a square toe and a ¾ Goodyear welt on a rubber outsole, $190.
At regular prices it is the only boot under $200 whose saved page names a Goodyear welt. Four other boots are under $200, and none names a welt.
A commenter on r/Horses wrote of their work and riding boots, “Wear like tennis shoes”.
Pros
- ¾ Goodyear welt under $200
- A square toe
Watch out for
- A rubber outsole; Medium (D) is the only width
Skip it if you want a leather outsole. The Crush has one at $235.
Best for a wedding: Corral A3322

Pros
- M and W widths
- Goodyear welt, leather outsole
Watch out for
- The saved pages state no origin
Skip it if you want an understated boot; our wedding guide has more options.
Handmade in Texas: Lucchese Savannah
The Savannah (Tan) is a 12-inch burnished Mad Dog goat boot with a snip toe and a single-stitched welt on a leather outsole, handmade in Texas, $645.
A poster on r/cowboyboots wrote, “I have had Lucchese Savannahs for 15 years and I love them.”
Pros
- Handmade in Texas
- B and C widths
Watch out for
- At $645 it is the highest price in the tables
Skip it if price leads. The Annie costs $375 with a ¾ Goodyear welt.
What we make for women
We make four Alvies women's boots: width B, sizes 5 to 12, ¾ Goodyear welt, handcrafted in León, Mexico, per Alvies' FAQ.
- The Rainey is a 7-inch zip-up ankle boot with a J toe with a snipped bottom sole, in Alvies' words, $330 (price checked October 16, 2026). Rated 4.8 from 286 reviews, 12 at three stars or fewer.
- The Perry Lane is a 16-inch dressy knee-high with a J toe with a snipped bottom sole and a 2-inch heel, in Alvies' words, $390 (price checked October 16, 2026). Rated 4.9 from 11 reviews.
- The Trinity is a 7-inch boot whose page says snip toe, $330 (price checked October 16, 2026). Rated 4.9 from 37 reviews, one at three stars or fewer. See snip toe boots.
The product pages for all four say “Free size exchanges for 30 days”; check the terms before you buy.
Alvies' FAQ gives its women's boots a 1.5-inch heel; the product pages list 1.75 inches, and 2 for The Perry Lane.
For a pair made to your measurements, George says, “In Olsen Stelzer, we will make custom boots for women.” Its price list starts at $1,500, with custom shafts, heels and toes extra. See Olsen-Stelzer.
How we picked
A boot counts as women's when the maker's saved page or store feed calls it women's or ladies': a women's category, tag, title, breadcrumb or type, or a description that says it is built for women. Criteria, in order: construction, outsole, shaft height, widths, origin and a dated price. To me, construction is the value of a boot: a well-built pair, looked after, lasts a lifetime.
Labels follow one rule. “Best” goes only to a boot whose own saved page names a welt, for a fact that page states. Any other boot gets a plain label that says what it is.
Facts come from the makers' saved pages and reviews, all saved October 11, 2026, except the Alvies prices and the Tecovas and Lane ratings (October 16, 2026).
Bespoke Western makes and sells Alvies, Hevias and Olsen-Stelzer boots. Four of the 34 boots are ours, and one of the nine picks. See the Cowboy Boot Index 2026.
What should you look for in women's cowboy boots?
Look for a welt, a leather outsole, a shaft that suits your calf and a width that fits. Twelve of the 34 name both a Goodyear welt and a leather outsole on the boot's own page. See our Goodyear welt guide. Shafts: four of the 34 stand 6 to 8 inches, 24 stand 10 to 15 and six stand 16 or taller.
I think a buyer should know the toe shapes: R, round, square, cutter, snip and French. Under jeans or slacks I can't tell a 12-inch shaft from a 17- or 18-inch one; what shows is the leather.
Which women's cowboy boots fit a wider calf?
Of the nine women's boots whose saved pages print a calf figure, the largest are Dan Post's Jilted (16 inches, on a 20-inch shaft), our Perry Lane (14 to 16) and the Durango Crush (15). The Lady Rebel Pro lists 14.5 inches, the Lane Lexington 14, the Dan Post Calista 13 and our Guadalupe, Rainey and Trinity 12 to 13. Makers label it differently: Alvies prints shaft circumference, Durango and Lane calf circumference, Dan Post circumference.
Tecovas's Annie and Abby pages also list a Wide Calf option (an extra 1.5 and .75 inch of calf circumference). See boots for wide calves.
Do women's cowboy boots come in wide widths?
Some do. Six of the 34 list more than one width: Lucchese's Savannah (B and C), Corral's A3322 (M and W) and Ariat's four women's boots here (B and C). Twenty-one list one width and seven pages state none. All four Alvies women's boots list B only. See our guide to wide feet.
Which women's cowboy boots are the most comfortable?
The ones that fit. I think a boot can be built to fit comfortably out of the box, and a good pair is extremely comfortable once it fits and has settled in, like a good baseball glove. I think the first worry is that a boot will be uncomfortable and hard to get on and off.
One reviewer wrote of Ariat's Heritage R Toe, “super comfortable right out of the box”. A reviewer of our Rainey wrote the opposite: “HARD to break in”. See the most comfortable cowboy boots, how boots should fit and boots for line dancing.
Quick answers
What size cowboy boots should a woman buy?
Start with your usual size, then read the maker's note. Tecovas, Lane and HYER say true to size, and Dan Post says to order the size you wear in a non-athletic shoe. Alvies' sizing guide says order a half-size down, while each Alvies product page says true to size. Our reviewers split: one wrote, “The fit is perfect, half size down from my regular size”, another “Fit true to size”. See our women's to men's size guide.
Is Ariat or Tecovas better for women's boots?
Ariat's Casanova is $279.95 with a Goodyear welt, a 16-inch shaft and B and C widths; Tecovas's Annie is $375 with a ¾ Goodyear welt, a 14-inch shaft and one width. Ariat gives free returns for 90 days and Tecovas for 30. Take the Casanova for a wider width, a taller shaft or the longer window, and the Annie for its 8,349 reviews (checked October 16, 2026).
Can you resole a women's cowboy boot?
Yes, if it is welted. Tecovas (through NuShoe) and Ariat's Casanova say their welted boots can be resoled, and Lucchese repairs soles and heels. Alvies says its welt means a boot can be resoled, though Alvies does not resole or reheel boots itself. Old Gringo does not resole and points you to a cobbler.
Bottom line
Start with the Annie, the most reviewed boot here, at $375. Take the Alvies Guadalupe at $365 for a 12.75-inch pull-on, the Daisy for a short boot or the Crush for a printed 15-inch calf. Fit first: I think a boot can be built to fit comfortably out of the box.
